This past week…

I had a birthday and LOVED LOVED LOVED it. It was truly one of the best ones in YEARS. So much love in my life. Made me all weepy.

My DH made a special dinner and my kids were just fantastic. It was as if they just knew that it wasn’t the day to give me any grief. And I even blew out candles! So much fun. I should make a point of doing it every year.

I had a mini-break here and it was food for the soul. The place that we went to is in Montagu and I have to say that it is such a quaint little small town. My DH and I even went to buy their Muscadel which was inexpensive and delicious! The weather was lovely (it only started to rain when we left), my kids and my DH had a great time (I was so relaxed that I even let the routine go out the window – it was FINE) and I just kept thinking about how blessed I am. Btw David Kramer actually wrote a song about Montagu which my DH  was singing to me all bloody week! When I finally heard the lyrics I just laughed and laughed and laughed because it is EXACTLY like he says. Here’s the clip.

I finished 2 books and got to start on my 4th one for the month. Don’t you just love holidays for all the reading catch-up?

I spent my entire Saturday in bed. With my computer and my Rose. My kids entertained themselves. My DH pottered around the house. It was exactly what the Dr ordered. Sometimes one needs time to recover from ones holiday.

Today we had lunch with my parents and this afternoon I had a friend date. My friend E treated me to a movie and dessert afterwards as a birthday gift. I had such a good time and I LOVE that he just gets that as much as I love getting actual gifts from people, I really do prefer  connection plus food. The movie we watched was called Salmon Fishing in the Yemen and it was beautiful and moving and very inspiring. Go watch it. Here’s some info on it.

This week marks the start of a new school term. Must say I have really enjoyed these holidays. Maybe because my kids slept out for a whole 6 days, maybe because we had a great break, maybe because the traffic etc is just non-existent.

How was your weekend? What are you looking forward to this week?

Awesome weekends and the Sunday night blues

I had a really nice weekend.

It consisted of running and breakfast and books, pizza and wine, braai, seafood, sun and beach sand, quality time with the men in my life, some alone time and I even managed to get a nap in.

I won’t talk about the fact that I did ALL my washing by hand this past weekend or the fact that the guy who was meant to come and look at my washing machine didn’t pitch! I should be used to this kind of thing as I live in Cape Town but it simply annoys me.

I also won’t talk about the fact that I went to watch a movie ALONE yesterday for the first time in probably 10 years and then ended up leaving after an hour! HATE that I had to waste money like that. But, I did enjoy the experience of being alone in a movie theatre. Will blog about it tomorrow.

I will talk about the fact that the weather was just DIVINE ALL WEEKEND. And the fact that I ate WAY TOO MUCH (all good food though). And the fact that I laughed more this past weekend than I laughed in weeks and I LOVED that!

I will talk about the fact that I had an excellent time connecting with my good friend over breakfast.  And that I literally didn’t lift a finger all weekend except to do the washing – am I mad to hand wash our clothing? Probably. But I found it to be kind of therapeutic. And the kids LOVED helping me with it. Will have to do a small amount every evening so it doesn’t all pile up.

Anyway, I’m trying to ignore the Sunday night blues.

So I will say this:

I am grateful for weekends like the one I just had. I am grateful for family and friends and braais. I am grateful for my ROCK STAR blog friends – if you are reading this then yes, it includes you. And I am in a strange way very grateful for this touch of the Sunday night blues. It means that I have a job to go to tomorrow. And it means that routine is back. I LOVE THAT.

I wish you all a fantastic week ahead.xx
