So last year when I turned 33 I made up a list of 33 things that I wanted to do and I gave myself until I turned 34 to finish it. You can find that list and the results over here.
I decided that I would do another list this year. Except that it was going to be a smaller list and that my new list would ONLY have fun things on it. I think that there is enough seriousness and stress in my life and I really did not want this to stress me out.
So this year, there are only 20 items on my list. And I am looking sooooo forward to getting on with it and having fun at the same time. Here we go:
1.Watch 6 documentaries. (now would this count as one thing or 6 things)?
2.Watch 6 movies in a theatre. BTW…I watch maybe 3 movies a year in a theatre so this is quite big for me.
3.Try 3 NEW restaurants that don’t cater for kids. One every quarter.
4.Do ONE fun (paid) outing with the kids every alternate month i.e. 6 paid outings for the year. At least 3 of them need to include hanging out with and touching animals.
5.RUN. My big goal running goal this year is a half-marathon to honour my dear friend and now former running partner who just had an emergency leg amputation to save her life.
6.Make 2 big frivolous purchases FOR ME i.e. not an appliance for the home. Looks like it’s going to be an ipod and a camera.
7. Four weekends away. One alone, one with my DH, one with my family, one with some girlfriends.
8.Two family holidays. One camping and one other.
9.Write a minimum of TWO thank you notes every month and make this a habit with the kids too. This was inspired by this post.
10.Explore 4 new craft mediums: crocheting, mosaic, embroidery, scrapbooking.
11.Change jobs.
12.WRITE – more on this in a later blog post.
13.Cook AT LEAST 6 new meals – from my Pinterest board.
14.Bake AT LEAST 6 things – from my Pinterest board.
15. One small craft every month – from my Pinterest board – also possibly depending on what medium I’m exploring.
16.Go for AT LEAST one massage – this is big. I tend to go only for maintenance i.e waxing and NEVER luxurious things like massage.
17.Take 8 specific photographs every month. One of me alone. One of DH alone. One of Child1 alone. One of Child2 alone. One of me and DH. One of me with kids. One of DH with kids. One family pic. PRINT these 8 pics every month for an end of year scrap book.
18.Plant a vegetable garden.
19. Continue to work on the house (cheaply) so that it can go on the market at the end of 2013.
20.Learn another musical instrument. I am about to buy a Djembe drum but I think that I will learn this very quickly (I can actually play it a bit already) so I am adding another one. It will be either a flute or a clarinet or a violin (depending on which one will be cheapest to buy).
I must say I LOVE this list. It’s just got FUN and HAPPY written all over it and I’ve been planning non-stop for the past few days. And unlike last year, I will try to do a blog post update at least every 3 months. Do you think that I can add any more fun stuff to this? Any ideas?
I love your list Julia, especially because it’s all fun things (aside change jobs, not sure that is fun).
It’s interesting on the thank you notes, I was reading an AWA.KE magazine today and 2 pages was dedicated to Thank you notes. I will scan and email it to you and Marcia. I could have sworn M saw that article when she was writing the post!!!!
I love the half marathon in honour of your friend, that’s so sweet.
What can you add?
Hmmmm, maybe finally get the professional photographs of your family taken
I know I know it’s a big deal for you but you have a whole year to get it done before we turn 35 – yes, I said we I turn 34 tomorrow
A couples massage with your hubby (if he is into such things) and maybe once you get the camera regular photo walks with your boys and you can include the pictures in your year end scrap book
Love your list. ESP the photos one.
On ipad, can’t type
This looks like a very good list to me
Oh I love your list – especially the photo one. That is such a great idea! (Need to think about copying it)
U go girl! I’m looking forward to seeing you achieve all the good things on this list
