This and that

1. Something isn’t quite right and I’m feeling a bit out of sorts. My skin (including my scalp) is dry and itching ALL THE TIME and my hair is just not behaving.  My house is untidy ALL THE TIME! I think my out-of-sorts-feelings are stemming from this.

2. I don’t currently have a cleaner/helper because I’m trying to free up more cash. Even getting someone in once a week will set me back a good  R800.  I do all my own housework even though I hate this WAY more than cooking and changing poo nappies. Well. I’ve decided that this needs to stop.  I’m going to find someone to come in at least twice a week. I cannot possibly be spending so much time cleaning up! My DH is not too impressed with the idea of someone coming in to clean our house when we are not there. Told him it’s his fault, it’s not like he’s hands-on or anything and Servant Julia is resigning. Best I inform him that he’ll be covering the costs.

3.  I really need to be going to bed earlier. My plan was to start this last night but then I got distracted by the Queen’s 60th anniversary concert. Did you watch it? I rather enjoyed it. Not ALL of it but most of it. I went to bed just before midnight because I was EXHAUSTED so I missed my beloved Madness. I LOVE Madness!

3. My DH made me a peace-offering craft gift last week (rather don’t ask what led to him having to grovel with me). He made me a cover for my kindle! I think it’s THE most beautiful Kindle cover I’ve ever seen. Hand stitched and all.  He sat with it for 3 evenings and I wasn’t allowed to see what he was busy with. I am VERY impressed with this peace offering.  I will do my craft post linky on Thursday and will take a pic and add it into the post.

4. And speaking of Kindles, I am LOVING my Rose SO MUCH! Who would have thought? I finished a NF book this past weekend  - it’s called Live Organised (It’s really good so go and buy it!) and I’m currently reading a paper book  (MWF seeks BFF) plus another book on Kindle (The Hunger Games). Paper books are for the car (reading Kindle in the car for me feels like I’m asking for a smash&grab – I tried it a few times and just COULD NOT RELAX!) and Kindle is for in the evenings in my bed.  I LOVE it! In fact, everyone in my life now wants one.

5. I’m in the market for a printer. I saw one that I really liked in the Makro leaflet aka the most expensive one in the leaflet. It’s one of those scanner/copier/fax/print jobs. I told people about it and they are asking me about ink and all these other whatsits. How on earth would I know about ink if I don’t even have the printer yet? What kind of questions must I ask the sales person trying to sell me a printer? Do you have a printer? Which one do you have?

Hope you had a divine Tuesday? Mine was so-so. NBL has a complex and assumes that everyone is talking about her, Child1 is not well and I made him go and write exams today (apparently I am VERY cruel to have done that – according to my colleagues. Gosh, it’s not like he was puking or having the runs or anything!) and Child2 screamed at me earlier because he wanted to blow vuvuzela and I took it away from him and made him take a bath instead. He told his Daddy “Julia working on a nerve!” I tried not to laugh but I REALLY could not help myself.

How was your Tuesday?

I did the no maid while D was out of work for 6 months and well, we survived but it was terrible. No life on Saturdays except to clean. I do believe that’s what started the decluttering binge!

Also nanny S is saving me money – I wanted Nester to increase to two days a week but it’s not necessary with her. I honeslty don’t know how she does all that done in a day AnD keeps the kids stimulated and entertained.

Julia, please stop working on Child2′s nerves :)

I need to write maybe next week about strict moms. I think you’re quite reasonable to expect him to go to school :)

Re the printer – I donated mine (okay it was a lexmark – old) but it was chewing too much printer ink. It’s cheaper for me to pay them at work (or at a Postnet) to print the occasional things than to buy cartridges all the time. You just have to be a bit organised :)

PS thanks for the nice things about my book. would you mind linking? if not, no worries but it’s Live Organised :)

Ha ha ha ha ROTFL on Julia getting on baby’s nerve that’s so funny!!!! Julia getting on a nerve. I would love to be a fly on the wall to hear him say those things, must be so damn cute

Cruel I don’t think so, if you are able to read and go to school, you might as well get the exam over and done with. Part of the problem these days is people think if you sneeze you have the ‘flu’ and they are entitled to “a get out of jail free” card. People have been known to repeat a whole year of studies in uni for missing one exam – guess you can tell my stand on this!

Printer- if you really don’t need it, I’ll skip, the hardware (printer itself) is normally quite affordable, the ink is another story. I have one of those combo printers h:p cost was sub R1000 I think, the cartridge costs at least R250 and above – got me thinking hard so now my darling printer is just gathering dust. Questions to ask : approximately how many pages you can get from one box of ink (coloured prints and black prints) and how much does it cost to replace the cartridge, ask about photo printing (if you plan to do that as well), how easy is it to get the cartridge and the warranty on the printer. If you really don’t need a combo I understand the “single” function printers are better – though I can’t vouch for that never owned one that wasn’t multi-function. Oh I lie I used to have a Lexmark which cost me $25, guess how much the cartridge cost $22 you can imagine that I got rid of the printer, would rather just buy a new printer than replace the ink.

If you don’t have a hands on hubby, you probably need a maid, I went ‘helpless’ for a few months or maybe weeks can’t even remember now because I didn’t want different people coming into my house while my helper was away and it was hell, my house was not dirty but let’s just say it was not clean either and I was tired all the time. Maybe you can get someone in to come help once a week to help relieve you or get your darling hubby to help out more. Something has got to give

Julia, do not work on his nerves! Gosh, I love it. And I know, coming from him it means a lot to you – shows much understanding.

I have decided I want Marcia’s book in print and not on Kindle – so will order it. I need to make physical notes etc so prefer my NF in print.

Oh and we had such a tough time last year when Lucy was sick for 3 months – I almost went off my rocker. Did nothing but house work in the evenings. Really, if you can, you need to live a bit too.

We have a scanner/copier/fax printer – I love it but to replace all the ink costs me like R800 :-/ And I cant seem to figure out how to just print black and white – so it ALL gets printed in colour. So maybe check out how many cartridges it needs – mine needs 4 – a black one, red, yellow and blue I think. It is currently standing gathering dust cos I just dont have the spare cash to replace the cartridges!

Oh and I need to start working on going to bed later :-/ LOL it bugs David – I am in bed at 19h00 – I will read or play on the iPad or whatever but by 20h30 I am OUT!

Laura, when you want to print, use control+p (so the printer menu comes up) and not the print icon at the top of the page. There should be something in one of the numerous tabs that allows you to choose to print in black. I think on some it’s called grayscale. I set my default to print black and change it to colour when I want to print in colour

Now really Julia, don’t work on his nerves :-) . So cute! Sadly it is my job here to do all the cleaning up too all of the time. One of those never-ending, never-appreciated kind of jobs. Can’t say I like doing it.

Hahaha! That working on the nerve thing is too funny…I wouldn’t be able to keep a straight face either. As for the cleaning business, i don’t have such a big problem with it at the moment. Maybe cause our place is small and it’s just the two of us, and we’re hardly ever there for longer than it takes to eat dinner, bath and go to sleep anyway. The thing that gets to me is f-ing ironing. I just don’t have it in me. Once a week i send a big basket of ironing over to my folks place and Martha does it for me and we collect it the next time were there. And then maybe once a month I’ll get her in for a day over the weekend to come do a serious scrub on our place while we’re out. Other than that if I just properly clean one of our three rooms a day it’s not really overwhelming at all. ;-)

You are a full time working Mom, I honestly don’t think it’s fair to expect you to clean the house and (shudder) iron as well on top of it all. Husband must cough up or clean up after himself and his children. You are not his maid, you are his wife and his kids mom.

Your love affair with Rose is killing me. I am dropping major Kindle hints to my hubby and considering he messed mothers day up so bad best he get this one right – its my birthday SOON.

Bwhahahaha – u working on a nerve really made me laugh out loud! How could you have possibly kept a straight face with that comment?

Hope the rest of the week has treated you well.

    xxx
